Tips For Preventing Mold & Algae

Mold & algae are inevitable but with a little forethought it can be possible to slow the grow. It starts with understanding what mold & algae love & then depriving them of it. Warm, dark, moist areas are where these spores hit their stride. (If you're interested in that kind of thing, you can read some mold fun facts here & algae info here.)

Shade from trees & buildings can make it impractical or impossible to use natural sunlight to discourage mold & algae spores but there are still things you can do to not give them a comfortable home. Start by minimizing or eliminating items that hold onto moisture; i.e. outdoor rugs, cushions, wood decorations & fabrics all stay wet for some time, especially if they are in a shaded area.

Another tactic in the fight against mold & algae is to pay attention for puddle prone areas. Standing water is an excellent spore breeding ground. Run off from storm drains or full gutters can create standing water, simply due to the volume of water being excreted, if it's not able to evaporate quickly enough.
